Welcome to the 4th Horsham St John’s Beaver Scouts website, the Catholic faith based Beaver Scout colony attached to St John’s Horsham. The colony meets every Tuesday in term time for fun activities, games and visits. Parents should check the current programme for details of meetings being held away from the hall, changes in start and finish times and special events. Welcome Beaver

Beaver Scouts are young people usually aged between six and eight years old. They belong to the first and youngest Section in the Scouting family. Young people can join Beaver Scouts in the three months leading up to their sixth birthday. They can move to the next Section, Cub Scouts, between seven years and six months and eight years six months.

Easily recognised by their distinctive turquoise sweatshirts, Beaver Scouts enjoy making friends, playing games, going on visits and helping others. A waiting list is operated and places are allocated accordingly, parents should enrol their children early to avoid disappointment - check Contact Us for deatils.

Investiture – An investiture ceremony is held for each new Beaver joining the colony, this normally takes place around the 3rd meeting of attendance. The Colony and its Leaders stand in a circle. The Beaver Scout Leader stands next to the new Member(s) and explains that they are going to become Beaver Scouts today. Everyone makes the Scout sign and says the Beaver Scout Promise together.

The Beaver Scout Promise is:
I promise to do my best
To be kind and helpful
And to love God.

The Beaver Scout Motto is:
Be Prepared

Then the Beaver Scout Leader welcomes the new Beaver Scout(s) into the Colony and the worldwide Family of Scouts. The new Beaver Scout(s) receive their World Membership Badge, County/Area and District Badges, Group Scarf, woggle and the Group name tape.

These badges should be sewn onto their uniform as soon as possible to show that they have been invested into the Beaver Section and made their Beaver Scout promise.
